Avocet

This is my favorite style of painting (and one of my favorite birds), featuring the bird in a great pose and including a suggestion of the habitat. Avocets are a rare, but regular, migrant through Michigan. This bird was spotted by a Piping Plover monitor (Alice VanZoeren) at Platte Point, and the word went out to birders in the area. I was fortunate to be able to spend a couple of hours with it, because it was kind enough to stay put for most of the day.
